「三浦流」の熊本合宿：長島一浩
三浦流に報道陣もついていくのが必死です。基本的にチームの練習内容や時間などは前日夜のスタッフ会議で決定します。選手は毎朝、コーチが記入しているホテルのホワイトボードでこの日の練習内容などを確認します。報道陣はと言えば、広報担当からの突然の電話で練習時間を知ることもしばしば。沖縄合宿の朝練習は前日の午後１１時過ぎに連絡があり、熊本合宿の午後練習中止は当日の午前８時過ぎの電話で知りました。
こんなこともありました。予定では午前練習だけだった８日。午前練習を終えて三浦監督に話を聞きにいくと「午後もあるから」と突然の“告白”。練習時間を把握するだけでも一苦労です。
だれもついていけないのは、４３歳の三浦監督の体力でしょう。監督は２時間みっちりの練習後、選手が疲れ切った表情で足早にバスに乗り込む中、競技場のトラックでの走り込みを日課にしています。そして、練習場からホテルまでの約１キロの距離を走ります。チームスタッフはだれもついていきません。当たり前ですが、報道陣も同様です。体力ではかないませんが、足を使って、三浦監督の素顔に少しでも迫っていける取材ができればと思っています。
